Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire Meta titan, has been outed as the buyer of a $23 million residence in Washington, DC — a purchase that underscores a growing trend among tech execs securing a foothold in the nation’s capital during President Donald Trump’s second term.
The expansive property, located less than 15 minutes from the White House depending on traffic, also places Zuckerberg in walking distance to Vice President JD Vance’s official residence at the Naval Observatory.
The transaction, executed in March through a Delaware-based limited liability company in all cash, ranks as the third-most expensive home sale in the city’s history, according to Politico.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the acquisition, stating to The Post: “Mark and Priscilla have purchased a home in DC, which will allow Mark to spend more time there as Meta continues the work on policy issues related to American technology leadership.”
The 15,400-square-foot brick mansion, designed by prominent local architect Robert M. Gurney, replaced a $5.15 million property demolished in 2013.
The new residence boasts five bedrooms and 7.5 baths, and features two kitchens and three fireplaces, according to development records obtained by The Post.
Extensive outdoor amenities include a basketball court and a pool complex, fortified by newly constructed walls and fencing for enhanced security.
Nestled on a nearly 1-acre corner lot in the leafy Massachusetts Avenue Heights neighborhood of Northwest DC, the residence sits amid notable landmarks like the mighty Washington Cathedral and beautiful Embassy Row.
The residence aligns with the street’s traditional aesthetic by hugging the road, freeing up ample private outdoor space and greenery at the back.
The dwelling comprises three distinct sections linked by glass-enclosed walkways, blending modern flair with classic gabled roofs, tall chimneys and steel windows.
Inside, these sections cater to both expansive communal areas and cozy family retreats.
The handsome exterior features durable brick and limestone walls, slate roofing, powder-coated steel windows and copper downspouts, selected to harmonize with the neighborhood while withstanding the elements.
Zuckerberg’s move coincides with a wave of high-profile tech figures establishing a presence in Washington as the industry seeks to influence Trump’s administration. Others, meanwhile, have already been there for some time.
David Sacks, Trump’s cryptocurrency adviser, acquired a $10.3 million home in January, while Amazon founder Jeff Bezos purchased a $23 million property in 2016. PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel bought a $13 million residence in 2021, and former Google executive Eric Schmidt secured a $15 million mansion in 2024, previously a temporary home for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
In contrast, Elon Musk, a key presidential adviser, has eschewed a permanent DC address, opting to sleep in his office at the Executive Office Building and frequently accompanying Trump to Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
The timing of Zuckerberg’s purchase raises eyebrows. He was seen at the White House on Wednesday, the same day reports surfaced of Musk’s planned exit from government duties by late May, fueling speculation about Zuckerberg’s potential role as a tech confidant to Trump.
Yet, immediate challenges loom for the Meta chief. The company faces an antitrust trial in April, with the Federal Trade Commission weighing a breakup of its WhatsApp and Instagram holdings. A settlement with the administration could mitigate risks, though Trump may see political value in targeting a tech giant.
