St. John’s wins first Big East Tournament championship in 25 years

St. John’s is a Big East Tournament champion again.

The top-seeded Red Storm scored a hard-fought 82-66 win over No. 2 seed Creighton on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, capturing their first Big East Tournament title since 2000.

Big East Player of the Year RJ Luis Jr. and Zuby Ejiofor led the Johnnies (30-4, 19-2 Big East) with 29 and 20 points, respectively.

The Red Storm also won the regular season Big East crown.

Ryan Kalkbrenner led Creighton (24-10, 15-6) with 15 points.
