Mets rotation battle coming down to the wire even as Tylor Megill sputters

PORT ST. LUCIE — Tylor Megill’s results weren’t great on Sunday, but the Mets also aren’t going to choose a starting rotation to begin the season based on spring training ERA.

The right-hander allowed four earned runs over five innings in the team’s 5-0 loss to the Astros at Clover Park, extending to 74 pitches.

Megill termed it a day in which “a mixture” of trying to work on various pitches and receiving results was the goal.

“All my pitches were working, obviously the results were a little different,” Megill said. “But the main priority was just throwing strikes, attacking hitters, getting the ball in play.”
