Texas A&M-Corpus Christi outfielder makes wild homer run robbery

Outfield grabs don’t get much better than this.

During a Tuesday game against Texas A&M, Christian Smith-Johnson, a junior at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, made one of the most spectacular over-the-fence catches of the early spring baseball season.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning, Aggies first baseman Gavin Kash crushed a long fly ball toward the right field, where Smith-Johnson was stationed.

Smith-Johnson sprinted toward the right field bullpen, and with a short fence standing in his way, he leaped over the wall, making the catch and robbing Kash of a grand slam.

He would hurdle back over the fence and fire the ball in, but not in time to stop the runner from tagging up and scoring from third.

Smith-Johnson’s Islanders teammate Isaac Webb ran all the way over from center field to congratulate his friend on the play of the year after the action.

Corpus Christi would go on to lose, 17-7, despite the amazing play from Smith-Johnson.

At the plate, he went 1-for-3 with a single and a run scored.
