Charles Barkley reignites San Antonio war with ‘big bitches’ taunt

Charles Barkley made it clear that his stance about women in San Antonio is the same after more than a decade.

The NBA legend doubled down on his 2014 comments — that San Antonio is the home of “some big ol’ women” — while on the mic at Capital One JamFest, the 2025 March Madness music festival during the men’s NCAA championship game Monday.

“Listen, San Antonio is a great city,” Barkley, 62, began. “I want to say this, y’all are a great city. I love Gregg Popovich and the Spurs. No seriously San Antonio, y’all put on a major, major, great show.

“And I want to say this … and yes, y’all got some big bitches here.”

Some people in the crowd cheered, while others booed.

Barkley was bent over laughing while Capital One exec Marc Mentry, who was sharing the stage with Barkley, glossed over the moment and moved the show along.

Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson laughed over Barkley “reigniting his friendly rivalry with the city and their big ol’ women” on their “NightCap” podcast on Monday night.

Barkley faced backlash for his offensive comments about women in San Antonio, which he initially made during an episode of “Inside the NBA” in 2014.

“Some big ol’ women down there [in San Antonio] … that’s a gold mine for Weight Watchers,” he said at the time while discussing the Spurs.

“Victoria is definitely a secret [in San Antonio] … they can’t wear no Victoria’s Secret down there… They wear bloomers down there … ain’t nothing skimpy down there.”

The past comments were met with call-outs by organizations including, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance and the Obesity Action Coalition.
