Mason Plumlee and Steven Adams packed it in early on Wednesday night.
The two were issued technicals and were ejected from the Rockets-Suns game in the second quarter after a fiery moment that saw both benches clear.
It all started with the Rockets, which won 111-104, in possession, and Jalen Green taking a 15-footer.
While the ball was in the air, Plumlee and Adams locked arms near the hoop looking for a rebound.
Even as the ball went into the net, both players seemingly refused to let go.
As they got closer to the 3-point arc, representatives from both teams tried to break up the tense scene before Plumlee went crashing down on top of Adams.
After they were separated, the two were issued technicals and quickly removed from the game.
“Their aggressive actions were considered a fight, and by rule, fighting technical fouls carry a penalty of automatic ejection,” crew chief Tony Brothers told a pool reporter after the game, per the Associated Press.
Plumlee, who was bleeding a bit on his forehead, expounded upon the incident afterward.
“We just got tied up,” Plumlee told reporters. “[Adams] had been going to the boards and doing what he does, so just met him with physicality and, yeah, you all saw it.”
“Look, everybody will see the clip that happened, but like he goes for every rebound and he does it whether it’s dirty or not,” he added. “I just felt like they were being more physical than us, so I just made a point to hit him on the glass.”
Both coaches thought the two players were being physical, with Houston’s Ime Udoka saying he was surprised by the ejection.
“It looked like they threw each other down,” Ime Udoka told reporters. “They both fell down and whatever, got in a little wrestling match. I didn’t think they would get ejected for that.”
Plumlee had four points and six rebounds for the Suns before the ejection while Adams had one point, four rebounds and an assist in 11 minutes for Houston.
